DV/FireWire cards The DV/FireWire card market has now split into 3 distinct market places. Low cost cards (under $250) with very limited bundles, mid range cards ($399-$699) and Real-Time cards for $900 and up. The most important thing to understand when comparing all these DV cards is this: DV in = DV out. As a result, all the DV/FireWire cards on the market deliver the identical video quality and all of them have the identical video specs - 720x480 image size, 29.97 frames per second, and a data rate of 3.6 megs per second. With all of these cards, you need a gig of storage for each 4.5 minutes of DV video. This new entry into the marketplace lets anyone with a DV camcorder and a fast computer edit video for well under $200. Pyro ships with Uleads Video Studio, a very nice, user friendly NLE program that while limited, does get the job done. The Pyro is also strictly a Win98 product with Win2000 drivers coming later this year. But hey, for the price, you can't beat it for just messing around with DV. Pyro is the best OHCI card ont he market. What OHCI means is that any OHCI software will work with it. Media Studio Pro, Vegas Video, Edit DV and coming soon Premiere 6.0 are all OHCI compliant!
